Military spending to double to €64 billion by 2027
President Emmanuel Macron has announced an additional €6.5 billion boost to France’s defence budget over the next two years, part of his plan to double military spending to €64 billion by 2027 in response to mounting threats including Russian aggression, cyber warfare, and global instability.
Macron emphasized that liberty in Europe is under significant threat and underscored the necessity of a strong, capable military—including nuclear deterrence and advanced technologies like AI and quantum computing—for national and continental security.
