Citroën C3, Peugeot 208, and Opel Corsa affected due to potential engine cooling system issues.
Stellantis has initiated a recall of approximately 68,000 vehicles, including the Citroën C3, Peugeot 208, and Opel Corsa, manufactured between October 2022 and 2024. The recall, reported on February 24, 2024, is due to a possible malfunction in the engine's oil cooling jet system, which could pose a fire hazard.
According to company announcements, the vehicles could experience premature degradation of the oil cooling jet, potentially allowing internal components to impact the crankshaft, which is essential for converting piston movement into rotation.
In rare instances, this issue can lead to engine failure or even fires.
Specifically, the recall affects about 57,000 Citroën C3s, 2,500 Peugeot 208s, and 8,700 Opel Corsas.
Drivers are advised to remain vigilant for symptoms such as unusual clattering noises or a loss of propulsion.
Additionally, sudden engine stoppage accompanied by burning odors are warning signs that should prompt immediate attention.
Stellantis clarified that this issue stems from supplier quality control rather than a design flaw in the engine, highlighting that it does not involve pre-existing problems associated with the 1.2 PureTech engines, nor does it pertain to turbocharged variants.
The company is communicating directly with affected vehicle owners via mail and is urging them to schedule appointments with authorized dealers for repairs, which will be provided at no cost and are expected to take approximately thirty minutes.
This incident adds to Stellantis's ongoing difficulties, as the company is also managing a separate recall of 236,000 vehicles in northern France related to Takata airbag failures, which have been linked to 14 fatalities.
