Owen L. Charged with the Murder of 11-Year-Old Louise in Essonne
The suspect, 23, faces charges of murder, while his girlfriend is charged with failure to report a crime.
Owen L., a 23-year-old male, has been charged with the murder of 11-year-old Louise, as announced by the Evry prosecutor's office on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. The young girl was reported missing after disappearing from her school in Epinay-sur-Orge, Essonne, on Friday afternoon.
Her body was subsequently discovered in the Bois des Templiers in Longjumeau, a short distance from her school, early Saturday morning.
Grégoire Dulin, the public prosecutor of Evry, detailed the circumstances surrounding the case during a press conference.
Four days after Louise's murder, Owen L. admitted to the crime and has been placed under formal investigation for murder of a minor under the age of 15. His girlfriend, also aged 23, has been charged with failure to report a crime and is subject to judicial control.
During the investigation, DNA evidence linking Owen L. to the crime scene was discovered on the victim's hands, corroborating his confession.
Dulin reported that Louise suffered multiple stab wounds inflicted with a sharp object, indicating a violent attack.
Owen L. had reportedly lived with his parents and engaged in sport, particularly boxing and football, while also developing a pronounced interest in video games, which his acquaintances suggest may have contributed to episodes of aggression.
According to reports, he expressed having severe anger outbursts related to his gaming experience.
Witness accounts indicated that Owen L. saw Louise and followed her, allegedly under the pretext of searching for a lost item.
When confronted by Louise, he allegedly brandished a knife to intimidate her during an attempted robbery, at which point she began to scream, leading him to fatally stab her.
In connection to the case, law enforcement had detained several individuals, including Owen L.'s parents and girlfriend for questioning regarding their potential involvement or knowledge of the crime.
However, the parents' detention was subsequently lifted, and they claimed to be unaware of any wrongdoing by their son.
The incident has garnered significant media coverage and raised questions about the factors leading to such violent behavior, including the influence of video games, though no definitive motive has been established by authorities at this time.
The Interior Minister, Bruno Retailleau, expressed his deep sympathy for the victim's family and indicated that the suspect had been apprehended.
As investigations continue, further information regarding the case and any potential additional charges may be forthcoming.
