Kylian Mbappé Returns as Captain for France National Team
The Real Madrid striker resumes leadership as France prepares for Nations League quarterfinals against Croatia.
Kylian Mbappé, the prominent forward for Real Madrid, is set to return to the France national football team as captain after a six-month absence.
He will lead the squad during the upcoming quarterfinal matches of the UEFA Nations League against Croatia, scheduled for March 20 and March 23. Head coach Didier Deschamps confirmed Mbappé's inclusion in the 24-player roster during a press conference held on March 13. This announcement marks a significant moment for the striker, who boasts 86 caps and 48 goals for France.
Deschamps reiterated that Mbappé would resume his role as captain, stating, 'I have spoken with him.
I confirm what I said a few weeks ago: yes, he will be captain.' Previously, in mid-February, Deschamps had expressed his desire for Mbappé to maintain his leadership position, emphasizing that the autumn period had not affected Mbappé's status or influence within the team.
He noted that the ultimate decision on the captaincy would be contingent on discussions with Mbappé himself.
This development comes as the French team seeks to advance in the UEFA Nations League, with the matches against Croatia representing a crucial stage in the competition.
