French Right-Wing Party Mobilizes Supporters Following Le Pen's Sentence
Jordan Bardella calls for a public rally to contest the court ruling against Marine Le Pen
On April 1, 2025, members of the Rassemblement National (RN), a prominent right-wing political party in France, began distributing pamphlets in support of party leader Marine Le Pen in Hénin-Beaumont.
This campaign follows Le Pen's recent conviction, which resulted in a two-year prison sentence and a five-year ban on holding public office due to her involvement in a case concerning parliamentary assistants.
Just a day after the verdict was announced, Jordan Bardella, the president of the RN, urged supporters to mobilize in opposition to the court's decision.
In a statement via social media, Bardella emphasized the need to demonstrate the strength of the people's will, linking to a petition aimed at contesting the ruling.
Bardella described the situation as one that has left "millions of French citizens outraged," asserting that the party has a duty to facilitate peaceful and democratic expressions of dissent against what he termed an "injustice."
In response to the ruling, the RN announced plans for a public meeting scheduled for Sunday in Paris, behind the Invalides, which is located in the 7th arrondissement.
This event is framed as a part of a collective and peaceful mobilization supporting Le Pen.
Historically, the RN has been skeptical of mass gatherings, making this call for mobilization a notable shift in strategy for the party.
The event aims to channel public discontent and rally support among loyalists and sympathizers of Le Pen's political agenda.
