The French President highlights partnerships in artificial intelligence amidst a global tech gathering in Paris.
French President Emmanuel Macron is set to attend the VivaTech event, which runs from Wednesday to Saturday and is expected to attract approximately 165,000 visitors, including 14,000 startups and over 3,000 investors from around the world.
Macron will join industry leaders including Jensen Huang, founder of American chipmaker Nvidia, and Arthur Mensch, head of the French startup Mistral AI, who are anticipated to announce collaborative projects, particularly in cloud computing.
In light of current geopolitical tensions, exacerbated by the political climate in the United States, the French government aims to establish significant computing power based in Europe utilizing European solutions.
The partnership between Mistral and Nvidia is highlighted as an exemplar of the desired European technological capabilities that are locally operated and leverage homegrown talent while also aiming to provide services on an international scale.
Nvidia is recognized as the largest producer of Graphics Processing Units (GPUs), critical for the advancement of generative artificial intelligence.
During the event, Macron will also engage with French tech companies including XXII, a firm specializing in algorithmic video surveillance software, and Aqualone, a startup from New Caledonia that creates autonomous and water-efficient irrigation solutions.
Notable figures at this year's VivaTech include Fidji Simo, the new COO of OpenAI, who will discuss the future of artificial intelligence, and Joe Tsai of
Alibaba, who will present on the latest AI innovations from the Chinese e-commerce giant.
