C&A Announces Major Store Closures in France Amidst Restructuring Plan

C&A Announces Major Store Closures in France Amidst Restructuring Plan

The fashion retailer aims to reduce its workforce by over 300 employees and close several stores nationwide by early 2026.
C&A, a budget clothing retailer with a presence in France for approximately 50 years, is set to implement a significant restructuring plan that will result in the closure of multiple stores across the country.

As part of this initiative, the company has announced plans to reduce its workforce by more than 300 employees.

The store closures are anticipated to take place by early 2026 and follow the previous closure of two prominent stores in Paris, located on Rivoli and Haussmann, two years ago.

The restructuring has prompted the initiation of negotiations with labor unions regarding the affected employees and stores.

A leaked list details the locations targeted for closure, which spans several regions.

In Île-de-France, the stores identified include those in Fresnes (Val-de-Marne), Buchelay (Yvelines), the Carré Sénart shopping center (Seine-et-Marne), the Trois Fontaines shopping center in Cergy (Val-d’Oise), and Maison Neuve shopping center in Brétigny-sur-Orge (Essonne).

In the Oise region, closures are slated for the C&A stores at the Chambly shopping center, Compiègne, and Plessis-Belleville.

In Hauts-de-France, the impacted stores include those in central Lille (Nord), at the Val de Sambre shopping center in Louvroil (Nord), Zac de Proville (Nord), Auchan shopping center in Arras, Noyelles-Godault (Pas-de-Calais), and the Portes de Soissons shopping center in Vauxbuin (Aisne).

Normandy will see closures at the Carrefour shopping center in Barentin (Seine-Maritime) and Mondeville (Calvados).

In the Pays de la Loire region, the downtown Nantes store (Loire-Atlantique) is included in the list.

Central France will witness the closure of stores located in the Châteauroux Cap Sud shopping center in Saint-Maur (Indre) and Tours (Indre-et-Loire).

In the Grand Est region, closures are expected in Nancy Saint-Sébastien (Meurthe-et-Moselle), Houssen (Haut-Rhin), Schweighouse-sur-Moder (Bas-Rhin), and in the Zac des Ayvelles at Villers-Semeuse (Ardennes).

In Occitanie, the C&A store located in the Salanca commercial area in Claira (Pyrénées-Orientales) has also been marked for closure.

Additionally, all 57 C&A 'corners' — concessions located within other retail spaces — in France are expected to close, as the partnerships with Intermarché, Carrefour, and Auchan could not be renewed.

C&A currently operates 1,300 stores across 17 European countries, providing affordable clothing for women, men, and children, and employs approximately 25,000 people.
