Winter Olympics 2030: Appointment of General Director Announced
Edgar Grospiron confirms the selection of a general director for the upcoming Winter Olympics in 2030, with speculation surrounding the candidate's identity.
Edgar Grospiron, the newly appointed president of the organizing committee for the Winter Olympics 2030 in the Alps, announced on Monday in Nice that he has secured a general director for the event.
However, he declined to disclose the individual's identity during a press conference.
According to reports, the candidate is speculated to be Cyril Linette, who is anticipated to be formally introduced during the next executive committee meeting of the organizing committee (Cojop) scheduled for April 7.
Cyril Linette, 54, is a seasoned figure in sports management, having previously served as the director of sports at Canal+ and held the position of general director at both L'Équipe (2015-2018) and PMU (2018-2021).
Linette had previously run for the presidency of the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) but was defeated by Vincent Labrune in September.
Grospiron made the announcement while attending the launch of the Olympic and Paralympic Week 2025 alongside France’s Sports Minister, Marie Barsacq.
He affirmed his progress in establishing the organizational team while emphasizing the collaborative nature of the decision-making process: 'I propose people and the executive committee validates.
So let us work...
It will come,' he stated.
Grospiron, a champion of Olympic mogul skiing in 1992, reiterated his commitment to adhering to the original vision for the Games, stressing the importance of a celebration that is both modest and virtuous.
Following a working meeting with Barsacq and Christian Estrosi, the mayor of Nice, where the ice sports events will take place, Grospiron reiterated his focus on executing a sustainable and responsible event as outlined in the initial project framework.
