A tragic incident occurred at the Allianz Arena in Munich during the UEFA Nations League final on Sunday night, resulting in the death of a spectator.
The individual, reported to be a man from Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, fell approximately eight meters from an upper level of the stadium into the press area during the first half of extra time in the match won by Portugal against Spain.
Emergency services, security personnel, and police quickly responded to the scene where the man fell, shortly after 23:00 local time.
Witnesses reported that many were horrified by the incident, prompting additional rescue teams to be summoned.
A tarp was set up to shield the area where medical personnel were attempting to save the man's life.
Despite the rapid medical response, the individual was pronounced dead at 00:06 on Monday.
A spokesperson for UEFA expressed condolences, stating, "Our thoughts are with his relatives during this difficult time."
The circumstances surrounding the fall are currently under investigation by local authorities.
Police indicated that the victim was from Garmisch-Partenkirchen, located approximately 90 kilometers south of Munich.
They have reported no evidence contradicting the assumption of a tragic accident at this time.
Investigators are continuing to gather witness testimonies and review video footage of the event.
Both national team coaches, Roberto Martinez of Portugal and Luis de la Fuente of Spain, along with Nuno Mendes, who was named man of the match, offered their condolences in a post-match press conference.
The final concluded in a tie of 2-2 after extra time, with Portugal securing a 5-3 victory in the subsequent penalty shootout.
