Pornographic Sites Youporn and Pornhub Suspend Access in France Over Age Verification Law
From June 4, 2025, major adult websites Youporn and Pornhub will no longer be accessible in France in protest against mandatory age verification regulations.
Starting June 4, 2025, the adult websites Youporn and Pornhub will suspend their services in France to protest against the country's mandatory age verification law, enacted in March 2025. The decision was announced via a statement from Aylo, the parent company of both platforms, with Alex Kekesi, the company's Vice President of Community and Brand, stating that the platforms would shift to serving as informational resources about their opposition to what they deem a problematic regulation.
The age verification requirement targets adult websites operating outside France but within the European Union, aimed at restricting access for minors to popular pornographic content in the country.
The French Ministry of Culture has expressed that this measure represents a significant advancement in safeguarding children and adolescents online.
The implemented law dictates that adult sites must establish protocols for verifying the age of their users, which the Ministry believes is essential for child protection.
Aylo, a group registered in Cyprus, is specifically named in the official decree published in March.
The regulation has attracted widespread attention and debate, particularly concerning its implications for digital privacy and freedom of access to content.
As of June 4, 2025, instead of pornographic content, Youporn and Pornhub will provide information about the law and their protest against it.
