Mass Shooting at Örebro Adult Learning Center Results in Ten Fatalities
Sweden witnesses its most lethal gun assault as a solitary gunman strikes Campus Risbergska in Örebro.
On February 4, 2025, a mass shooting took place at Campus Risbergska, an adult education institution in Örebro, Sweden, leading to the deaths of around ten people, including the alleged gunman.
The event occurred just after 12:30 p.m. local time.
The suspected shooter, a 35-year-old man, was among the fatalities.
Authorities have yet to establish a motive for the attack, although they have stated that terrorism is currently not a consideration.
The individual had not been previously known to police.
Campus Risbergska provides educational opportunities for adults, including immigrants and those with disabilities.
At the moment of the shooting, many students had already departed the campus after a national examination, potentially lessening the number of casualties.
Witnesses reported multiple gunshots and described a scene of chaos as students and staff sought to evacuate or find safety.
One teacher recalled guiding her 15 students to safety upon hearing the gunfire.
Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson addressed the nation, remarking, "It is hard to absorb the full scale of what has occurred today—the darkness that has descended upon Sweden this evening." King Carl XVI Gustaf also conveyed his condolences, stating, "It is with profound sadness and shock that my family and I received the news about the dreadful atrocity in Örebro."
The Swedish Police Authority and the Swedish Security Service are conducting a collaborative investigation into the event.
As of now, no additional suspects have been identified, and the inquiry remains active.
