Kylian Mbappé Clarifies Recent Comments on Career Choices

Kylian Mbappé Clarifies Recent Comments on Career Choices

Real Madrid forward addresses misinterpretations stemming from a televised interview regarding his move from Paris SG.
During a social media post on April 7, 2025, Kylian Mbappé, the Real Madrid forward and 2018 World Cup champion, sought to clarify remarks he made during his first major interview in Spanish with the television network La Sexta.

The interview covered various topics, including his arrival in Madrid, his relationship with fellow player Vinicius, his aspirations for the Ballon d'Or, and his family.

Notably, Mbappé stated, "choosing between Real Madrid and money is not difficult," underscoring his passion for the game over financial incentives.

These comments were interpreted by some as a criticism of his former club, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), where he departed under contentious circumstances following a strained relationship with management, specifically with Nasser Al-Khelaïfi.

This led to speculation that he favored Real Madrid over the financial benefits offered by PSG, despite maintaining one of Europe's highest salaries after his move.

In response to the fallout from his remarks, Mbappé emphasized via social media that his comments had "nothing to do with PSG," expressing frustration at the misinterpretations.

He clarified that the discussion centered around future choices, mentioning potential offers from places like Saudi Arabia compared to clubs such as Real Madrid.

He encouraged critics to focus on developments in France, suggesting that outside observers lacked understanding of the situation.

Additionally, Mbappé reiterated his ambition to represent what he considers the world's greatest football club.

He acknowledged the importance of financial considerations but affirmed that his greatest priority is enjoying the game on the pitch.

He stated, "Money is important, of course, but for me, the most important thing is to be happy on the pitch, and I knew I would be happy here."

The player disclosed that he has received several offers but reiterated that his focus remains solely on Real Madrid, indicating his commitment following his recent arrival at the club.

Mbappé is scheduled to play with Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals against Arsenal on April 8.
