Citroën Expands Recall of C3 and DS3 Models Across Europe Due to Faulty Airbags
Citroën to Recall Over 869,000 Vehicles Across Europe Starting Late January Due to Takata Airbag Issues
Citroën, part of the Stellantis group, has announced a comprehensive recall of its C3 and DS3 models across Europe, prompted by airbag defects linked to the Takata brand.
These airbags have been associated with serious accidents due to the deterioration of a chemical propellant, which can become hazardous, especially under warm and humid conditions.
The recall of these vehicles will begin in late January, initially affecting approximately 98,000 vehicles.
Of these, 73,000 are in France.
Following an earlier phase involving the repair of 102,000 Citroën and DS vehicles in Southern Europe—specifically France, Italy, Spain, and Portugal—the recall initiative will extend further into other regions, including Northern France, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Moldova, Switzerland, Ukraine, and Ireland.
Ultimately, the recall campaign aims to cover more than 869,000 vehicles throughout Europe, with a significant portion, about 400,000, registered in France.
This decision underscores a continued global effort to address the widespread and high-profile issues stemming from Takata airbags, which have affected numerous automotive brands around the world.
