Changes in France Effective June 1, 2025: TV Channel Re-Numbering, Gas Prices, and More
Key adjustments affecting French media, energy prices, tobacco rates, and employment regulations set for June 2025.
Starting June 1, 2025, several notable changes will take effect in France, impacting television channel numbering, gas and tobacco prices, employment regulations, and public transport initiatives.
The first significant change involves the re-numbering of television channels on the TNT (Télévision Numérique Terrestre) platform.
As of June 6, BFMTV and CNews will move to channels 13 and 14, respectively.
LCI and France Info will occupy channels 15 and 16. Channels LCP and Public Sénat will replace C8 on channel 8, which has not been renewed by the regulatory authority Arcom.
This decision has drawn criticism from Canal+, expressing concern over the potential impact on the media ecosystem and job security for approximately 400 employees associated with C8.
Additionally, Gulli will shift from channel 18 to channel 12, which was previously occupied by NRJ 12, also not renewed by Arcom.
France 4 will officially take over channel 4 from Canal+, which will continue to broadcast on channel 30.
In the energy sector, a 5.3% decrease in gas prices will come into effect on June 1. This reduction means that households consuming 10,000 kWh annually will see their gas bill drop from €1.518 in April to around €1.378 in June, reflecting the ongoing fluctuations in energy costs.
Simultaneously, the price of cigarettes will rise again, marking the third increase since the year began.
From June 1, prices for several brands, including Marlboro, Philip Morris, and Chesterfield, are expected to rise by approximately €0.50, varying by product.
In response to employment regulations, France Travail will implement changes as of June 1 to its sanction measures for jobseekers.
Previously, failing to attend a scheduled appointment without justification resulted in automatic deregistration from France Travail.
The new policy will not penalize jobseekers for missing an appointment but will enhance overall monitoring regarding job search activities across France.
On a technological front, by June 20, new energy labels will be mandated for smartphones and tablets sold within the European Union.
These labels will provide consumers with information on durability, including reparability indices and battery resistance, aiming to enhance consumer awareness about the longevity of electronic devices.
Finally, in the public transport sector, the Pass Navigo Liberté + will now be available on mobile devices starting June 1. This subscription option will allow for automatic monthly billing of all travel expenses.
A digital version of the annual Pass Navigo is also anticipated to be available by the end of this year.
