France Reports Around 1,000 Excess Deaths During Severe Heatwave Across Western Europe
Public Health France estimates around 1,000 excess deaths between June 24 and June 28 as a record-breaking heatwave pushed temperatures above 40°C across parts of Western Europe. Authorities say the figures are preliminary and likely underestimate the full impact, with people aged 65 and older accounting for about 85% of heat-related fatalities.
