Josefa Hurt
Daughter of Frank (Franc) and Mary (Poukovsky?) Hurt
(info submitted by Pat Wright)
My name is Pat Wright and
I have been searching for my g-grandmother's family. Her name was Josefa
Hurt and she was born in Bohemia March 1879.
Her parents were Frank (Franc) and Mary (Poukovsky?)
Hurt.
She had six brothers: Anton, Frank (Franc), John (Jon),
Vaclav, Edouard, and Emil, the youngest, who died at the age of 10 years.
Her mother died shortly after Emil was born and Josefa helped take
care of her father and brothers.
Josefa immigrated to New York City between 1897/1898 and stayed with
her cousins John Hurt and Anna Hurt. Their father Joseph Hurt was Josefa's
uncle and brother to her father Frank.
Josefa married twice and had seven children. She lived the rest of
her life in New York. She died February 25, 1968. I have been told that
she did receive letters from her family for a short while after she
moved to New York. But something happened between them and she never
spoke of her father or brothers again. I don't know what time frame
that happened in, but in 1913 her first husband died and Josefa was
left with four young children to raise.
I have no other information about her family. So you can imagine my
excitement when I came across your "Hurt
Family" website and saw the names John, Anton and Frank Hurt.
It could be a coincidence that the names are the same, but it also could
be that John, Anton, and Frank are Josefa's brothers. Please let me
know if you have any additional information about John, Anton and Frank
that would not be on the website. Of course if they are her brothers
I will gladly share all the "family" information that I have with you.
In the meantime I'll keep my fingers crossed. -- Pat Wright
